WHEN do you plan to evacuate?
This simple but powerful video from New South Wales Rural Fire Service will burn into your mind the need to add "WHEN" to any evacuation plan you may have, depending on where you live. (If you love horses, you may find this hard to watch.)
Some parts of the Waikato, such as the Coromandel, while often discussed in terms of tsunami evacuation planning, have a much higher risk of fire. Is your home nestled in native bush? Decide in advance WHEN to act. Watch and then share with anyone you think might need. |

Thames coast fire 26 June 2014. Bush caught fire near Moanataiari and could have spread, trapping exit roads nearby. If you live where exit routes are limited, make sure you know how long you get before you're trapped. |
